SITREP: 2026 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak

I recently got behind the wheel of the 2026 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak, and I'll say it right up front—what a fantastic piece of kit this muscle SUV is. In fact, it is hands-down the most thrilling vehicle I’ve ever reviewed. Case in point: it’s the only vehicle I’ve ever driven that sent my smartwatch (a Google Pixel Watch) into a total frenzy. Throughout the drive, the watch kept hitting me with alerts that I was experiencing highly stressful or highly exciting moments. If that doesn't tell you what kind of firepower this thing packs on the road, nothing will.

Our review unit rolled up looking sharp in bright blue with classic racing stripes. Because it’s a Jailbreak model, the level of customization you can pull off on the build and price website is outstanding. You can mix and match color tones for the badges, the racing stripes, the interior—you name it. Dodge absolutely nailed this aspect, letting you tailor the vehicle exactly to your preferences.

However, it’s not all perfect. The Durango SRT Hellcat does show its age and is definitely due for a refresh. You really notice it in some of the dated controls. For example, the rear tri-zone climate controls are just your typical analog knobs—there are no screens or automatic functions accessible for passengers in the second row. Speaking of the second row, while on paper it boasts 38.6 inches of legroom, in reality, it feels quite a bit tighter than that.

Inside the cockpit, the driver information cluster is a mix of semi-analog and digital. If you are looking at the analog portion for the speedometer in kilometers per hour, the numbers are way too squished together, making it incredibly hard to tell exactly what speed you're going at a quick glance. Thankfully, Dodge includes your speed on the digital portion of the display as well, which saves the day.

But here is where this muscle SUV wins me back: the footprint, layout, and phenomenal ride quality. It is the perfect size. It gives you the heavy-hitting experience without being massive, cumbersome, and difficult to maneuver like a Cadillac Escalade-V might be. Even better, the cabin isn't overburdened with tech just for the sake of having it. You get a solid, traditional gear shifter, plenty of tactical, physical buttons and knobs for your HVAC controls, and a good-sized, responsive display running Uconnect.

On the road, the adaptive damping suspension is perfectly tuned. Because it changes according to the drive modes you select, you can leave it in "Auto" mode, roll right over a set of railroad tracks, and feel very few bumps. This excellent ride quality is heavily supported by the wheel setup. It rides on 20-inch wheels, avoiding the overly excessive 21-inch or 22-inch rims you see on other performance SUVs. It provides just enough rubber to deliver the right amount of comfort, but not so much that it compromises the vehicle's sports ability.

Putting It In Perspective

If anyone tries to tell you this isn't a true powerhouse because it has three rows and child seat anchors, let's put things in perspective. This SUV will flat-out embarrass legitimate exotics. With 710 horsepower and a 0-60 time in the mid-three-second range, the Durango SRT Hellcat packs significantly more horsepower and will out-accelerate supercars like the Aston Martin DB11 and the Audi R8. Hell, even a purpose-built Italian exotic like the Ferrari Roma produces nearly 100 less horsepower than this Dodge, and it would be fighting for its life against it off the line. It's a family hauler that brings supercar-killing firepower to the daily commute.

The Verdict

If you want an absolute thrill ride that doesn't bury you in touchscreen menus, absorbs the road perfectly, and keeps things appropriately sized for actual driving, the Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak is right on target.
